Description Unstageable was the first reaction of the National Theatres artistic director, Nicholas Hytner, to the idea of dramatizing His Dark Materials .

But last nights opening night has triumphantly proved him wrong.

-- The Sunday Times Nicholas Wright has revisited his adaptation of Philip Pullman s best-selling fantasy trilogy, tightening and improving it, and this revised version is to be published alongside the reopening in the National Theatres 20042005 season.

About the Author Philip Pullman is the author of of several novels for adults and children, but it was the His Dark Materials trilogy that gained him world-wide fame and made him the first childrens writer to win the Whitbread Award.

Nicholas Wrights Vincent in Brixton won rave reviews and the Olivier Award for Best Play.

The West End production was subsequently seen on Broadway.

His adaptations include Pirandellos Naked and Wedekinds Lulu, as well as the new His Dark Materials and Chekhovs Three Sisters, both for the National Theatre in London.
